Discover A Super Easy Way To Bag A Free IHG Hotel Night

This must be the easiest way to earn a free IHG hotel night. Just apply for a IHG credit card, spend Β£200 within three months and you will bag yourself a 10,000 bonus. That’s in addition to the points you earn per pound spent on the card, and is enough for two PointBreak nights or one night in a category one hotel. Here’s the link for the current list of PointBreaks offers.

How does the IHG credit card compare?

Compared to most airline credit cards, this offer is an absolute steal. Many airline credit cards have an annual fee and require spend of Β£2,000 to Β£3,000 to secure the bonuses. For someone like me, who travels for work, that spend in two or three months is a piece of cake, but not everyone relishes the prospect of spending that amount on cards.

Let’s face it though, even if a couple simply diverted all their monthly food shopping onto the card, this amount could be reached in a month, never mind three. This offer is a gift!

What are the other benefits?

For every pound you spend, you will earn one IHG point. This increases to two points for every pound spent overseas or in IHG properties.

You also benefit from an upgrade to gold but frankly that doesn’t get you much, other than priority check in, late check out and a slight uplift in award points. You can exchange your bonus points for a drink in the bar which sometimes comes as a welcome relief after a hard day!

Balance Transfer

You can also take advantage of a 0% balance transfer for twelve months. Note, this incurs an initial charge of 3% of the amount transferred, subject to a minimum of Β£3.

Where can you redeem your IHG points?

You will be spoiled for choice with over 5,000 hotels around the world. There are twelve brands to choose from, ranging in cost from more budget options like the Holiday Inn Express to the seriously swank Intercontinentals. Personally, I prefer to save up those points and go somewhere special rather than using them for a budget break. I particularly like this hotel in Alpensia, South Korea for instance.

Redemptions start from as little as 5,000 if you can take advantage of the PointBreaks offer. Woah, even better than one free night is two! Otherwise a category one hotel is 10,000 so how about a city break? Details of the different categories can be found in my recent post ‘Accelerate Your Earnings’

How do I rate this card?

It’s not the most rewarding credit card but it also carries no cost. If you want to speed up your journey to FREE hotel nights, it is a worthwhile addition to your credit card arsenal, particularly if you are in a void period between recycling your AMEX cards (Want to know what I mean? What do I think of IHG?

You can read a bunch of other posts featuring IHG here but this group is rapidly become my preferred choice. The regular accelerate offers, welcome drinks and comfy beds (Not those rock-hard ones you get in the Hiltons!) give me everything I need for business or pleasure!

  1. I wasn’t aware of the luxurious stay provided by IHG hotel. Would love to do such a travel hack next time i’m wandering!

  2. That’s good information! Sounds like a steal πŸ™‚

  3. It sounds like a great card. Loads of good points opportunities. I know when I’m traveling it’s all about finding ways to score as much as possible on a budget!

  4. Great information! I love cards that offer incentives for us travelers since hotels can be the most expensive part of your trip. I always try to find a card that doesn’t carry any costs and this looks like one I need to start looking into πŸ™‚

    • Yes there is also a premium version which carries a cost but because I pay for my airline credit cards I don’t want to pay for an Hotel one too.

  5. This sounds like a very handy card to have .I’ve often stayed at IHG hotels for work and pleasure so would definitely consider it. Just curious what an accelerate offer is, is that when they offer you additional extra points?

    • You have to complete certain activities within a set time and if you do, you earn tons of extra points. I earned an extra 40,000 points recently and am doing another one for a similiar amount at the moment, really ramps up the balance

  6. Sounds good option for those who like plastic cards:)

    • What’s not to like when it’s giving you free travel? Although I definitely don’t recommend that people who are not very disciplined with money get them

  7. This is a super way. I didnt know about this. It has certainly given a good idea that how one should use only one card to buy everything and then have a great stay in return for free!

  8. The IHG card does look promising. The hotels too are comfortable, elegant and luxurious. The fact that the card carries no cost is an added attraction.

  9. I’m not sure if i would get one of these since it would limit my hotel choices. I have the chase sapphire reserve but I’m moving to London soon so I think I’ll have to get a new one with a UK bank.

    • I think it’s worth it just for the low spend. I prefer to use Amex for loyalty cards and in the UK you are best looking at the Amex Gold Or British Airways Platinum card. Be warned though, there isn’t a card as generous as Chase Sapphire in the Uk, and given the current exchange rate you probably don’t want to be making purchases in Britain on a US πŸ’³

  10. Great tips. I’m always trying to figure out what the best rewards programs are and the right cards to use. IHG has some awesome places to stay so that’s a good up for them. Haven’t’ looked into their credit before though. Will do.

  11. That’s a really handy tip! I had no idea. Plus IHG has a collection of global hotels so this would be super useful no matter where I travel! Going to check this card out!

  12. Nice tips these. I agree with you that it is a good idea to route all your purchases through one card so that you can accumulate more points. Now i need to check if IHG India has this credit card or not. πŸ™‚
