No.38 The Park – A Gorgeous Georgian Getaway in Cheltenham

No.38 The Park is a Georgian gem.

Hidden away on the outskirts of town, No.38 The Park occupies an elegant Georgian mews house which has been tastefully converted to provide the ultimate home from home for 13 lucky couples (or singles!).

You’ll feel equally comfortable lounging around in the oh so elegant drawing-room, as you will sipping wine or a G & T in the fabulous American diner cum country kitchen, where a flickering fire provides a warming backdrop.

A Very Friendly Welcome

I’m greeted on arrival by Tanya, who gives me a quick tour of the lounge and kitchen, including details of the honesty bar and breakfast.

She leads me to my room, at the top of a tiny staircase, where a chaise lounge provides a welcome resting spot to admire the second staircase lit by dramatic, cascading chandeliers.

Small, but welcome touches

Like a kid in a sweet shop, I spend some time exploring my home for the night. It’s impressive, with plush white linens, thick dressing gowns and luxury towels. The knitted hot water bottle adds an endearing touch to the surroundings, as do the little signs inviting you to ask if you have forgotten anything.

I find a handwritten welcome note explaining how to get access to wi-fi. Just as well as I can’t wait to get online and shout about this precious find! I am after all, away with work and No.38 The Park makes a wonderfully refreshing alternative to the nondescript chains I usually frequent.

Lounges fit for royalty

I wander downstairs admiring the eclectic mixture of solid wood furnishings and luscious soft sofas, and take a seat in the drawing-room imagining I’m lady of the manner awaiting a suitor. Sumptuous furnishings, ethnic lamps and vases, soft cushions and throws to sink into, turn the enjoyment of a coffee here into a true pleasure.

Secret garden or winter warmer?

Joined for a gossip by my fellow Travel Hack, Claire, the ‘ooh’s and ‘aahs’ are endless. We contemplate hanging out in the secret Italian courtyard, replete with fountains, but the lure of the fire proves too great.

We settle instead into the spacious diner after checking out the open plan kitchen and funky kitchen stools.

Back in my room

Complimentary water, an iPod dock and flat screen TV provide entertainment options; a perfect fusion of old and new.

The only downside is where to park. Parking is limited considering the 13 rooms, so get here early and make the most of your stay.

A complimentary cab is on offer to take you to the sister hotel No.131 on the Promenade, where you can indulge in the restaurant or cocktail bar; that’s if you can tear yourself away from No.38 The Park.

Whether you are a couple in need of romance, or looking for an elegant weekend with friends, No. 38 The Park will not disappoint. This place oozes boutique beauty in buckets! The rooms are all individually styled, and you can even bag a stand-alone bath (I’m a sucker for one of those babies!).

All I need to do know is figure out when I will be back so I can check out the sister hotel too!!
