Hot on the heels of the British Airways food upgrade (their words, not mine) comes an innovation which is super-exciting.
FREE in-flight wifi (maybe)
The Telegraph reports that the airline is to launch an in-flight wifi service on short-haul routes from next summer. For those of you who cannot tolerate being deprived of Facebook, Twitter or other online activity, this may be the answer to your prayers. For parents with young children, Netflix entertainment can help avoid some of the stresses of flying. Although there is no confirmation of cost, it is anticipated that a basic service will be free. Free connectivity could mean your flight passes in a jiffy.
For business travellers, the ability to Skype or deal with emails could be a godsend making that flight much more productive.
What is more, the good news doesn’t just apply to British Airways. British Airways parent, IAG announced that it would be extended to Vueling, Iberia and Aer Lingus too.
What it means to me
For me, it means being able to publish reviews during the flight. It means being able to do research for my MBA or being able to message to my friends from the plane. Doesn’t everyone love getting those ‘look where I am’ messages?
What do you think?
What would do if you had access to internet in-flight? Would you be prepared to pay for a service and if so how much? Would you expect it to be included in your flight price? Have your say below.
Nope, I don’t I will connect to inflight wifi if theres one where I’m flying now. I use this time to catch up on reading, writing on my journal and sleep.
Wi-fi on a plane is more important than food these days. Wouldn’t you agree?
If i had FREE wifi I would definitely use it. I’d plan some of my trip or do some social marketing on it. But I wouldn’t pay more than a few dollars for it since I’m already spending so much on my flights.
I love in flight wifi, but only if it’s free. I never pay for it and just assume that’s the universe telling me to relax and take a nap.
I would rather not have any inflight wifi. I actually like not having to check emails or social media while flying. It gives me a chance to relax and watch movies !
Although wifi on the plane seems really convenient…I’m okay without it to be honest. It gives me an excuse to get offline, read a book or watch a movie! Although work wise if you have deadlines it would be useful.
Even I am waiting for the same. It would be such a boon to have Wifi even while in the air.
I\ll be honest, i’m a little scared of flying so i freak out when people take our their phones during flights. I still havent gotten used to that and at present i’m happy to spend a few hours without wifi. Having said that, I do think it is a good idea and certainly very productive.
I flew with Emirates recently and they offered complimentary wifi in economy for half an hour. It worked quite well, and allowed me to check a few social networks quickly – but I couldn’t get any work done. The half an hour way over before it started and it wasn’t all the quick. I supposes something is better than nothing though! I’m looking forward to hearing what BA will be offering!
